Supporting fathers: fatherhood as a combination of love, respect, strength and service
We are happy to invite you to the fourth of five webinars organized by Informal Educational Group SZTAMA, the laureate of the second edition of the WzmocniONE Program, in partnership with Ashoka Poland! Our webinars will feature international experts on masculinity, engaging men in anti-violence activities and working with men and boys. You will have a chance to learn about good practices, important experiences and standards that our guests implement in their communities in other countries and continents.
During this webinar you will learn about supporting fathers, and fatherhood, love, respect, service and power. We will hear the story from Dr Charles Daniels, co-founder of Father's UpLift. Charles is in a special relationship with the Ashoka Fellows Network.
Dr Charles C. Daniels Jr. is the founder of Fathers Uplift, an organization serving fathers and families across the United States. Dr Charles joined Ashoka's network in 2021. Fathers Uplift is, among other things, the first mental health clinic in the U.S. focused on fathers who do not live with their children, particularly those with imprisonment experiences.
In addition to its therapeutic work with clients, the organization works systemically to change the profession of therapists and social workers to better support men with children. To that end, it is building the field nationally, licensing its model to other clinics and non-profit organizations, and designing and offering online courses.
Dr Charles is changing approaches to fatherhood and parenting, and patterns of masculinity, by prioritizing the "parenting skills" of fathers. Charles deliberately focuses on fathers caught in justice system. They have a challenging road ahead of them to repair their relationships with their children, and statistically speaking, they are far more likely to face obstacles such as racism, poverty, trauma, and addiction. Instead of directly demanding more from men who have children, Dr Charles makes sure that fathers are empowered and mentally comfortable in their role.
The webinar will be facilitated by Wojciech Mróz - an economist by profession, and an entrepreneur by vocation. He has successfully co-created many projects in the area of IT and education. Currently, he is an advisor to the Management Board of Ashoka Poland. In his spare time he studies psychology and learns to play the Handpan.
The webinar will be held in English with simultaneous translation to Polish. Polish translation and the possibility of asking questions will be available only on Zoom, after registration.
