Driving Climate Action in Schools
What role can schools play in the climate and sustainability transition? How can whole schools - leaders, teachers, students, staff and local communities - become a major force of climate action? And what can school leaders do to build an enabling environment in their schools, to allow their students to lead the way?
Grounded in the context of the DofE's recent Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, which invites schools to think more intentionally about how they develop their school grounds and sustainability leadership in school, this session takes an opportunity to explore how schools can co-lead with young people to shape their role in climate action and sustainability transition.
In this session, we hear directly from students across schools in the UK, who are leading climate activism projects and initiatives on how adults in schools and support student climate action and consciousness. Led entirely by students, this session is for all adults in the education sector and beyond - from school leaders and governors, to business managers, teachers and staff - to come together and overcome both the psychological and operational barriers to make change at the school level possible.
