ADSEN is diverse group of 100 African descent social entrepreneurs and changemakers from around the world and was first convened in March through World Learning on the U.S. commitment to the goals of the Permanent Forum of People of African Descent (PFPAD). In September, Ashoka was engaged to facilitate a retreat of 11 of these changemakers, to help them foster their connection, vision, and network building strategy. The retreat was held in Madrid, Spain and provided participants with invaluable insights, concepts, and structural guidance for enhancing an effective African Descendants Social Entrepreneurship Network.

The Ashoka team comprising of Bunmi Otegbade from Washington DC, Asier Ansorena and Andrea Urizarbarrena from Spain and Iveren Ityoikaa from Nigeria led the group through a 5-day network building session which also included a cultural exchange dinner, a visit with the US Ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, a learning journey visit with Ashoka Fellow Miguel Angel Luengo-Oroz, an interactive session with Africa 2.0 and great words of wisdom from Ashoka Spain’s Ana Saenz de Miera.
