At Benmore Gardens Johannesburg we celebrated International Mandela Day. Many joined us to feed the hungry, the nutritional way.

This marked the start of our International e’Pap Challenge campaign to feed 1,000,000 e’Pap meal portions making everyday a Mandela day. Already Headline Leisure has kicked off the campaign with 100,000 meal portions and people in the USA and Switzerland have made commitments to join in with another 50,000 meal portions.

For Mandela Day at Benmore Gardens Shopping Center, the e'Pap team provided a very special e’Spread peanut butter with the same 28 nutrients in the famous e'Pap.

Blue Ribbon Bakery donated 1000 loaves and Pick n’ Pay added 30 loaves. Benmore Gardens Shopping Centre was the gracious host for our celebration.
The Discovery team were the first to arrive at 9.00am followed by groups from the Body Shop, Nandos, Post Net, Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Virgin Active Houghton, Union of Jewish Women, The Brahma Kumaris Meditation Team, Credit Suisse Bank, ABSA, Nedbank, Laughter Coach, RigaTech, Seeff, Sportron, Boehringer, Master Builders, DNA, The Food review and lots of caring individuals.  From 8 year olds to an 83 year old, from Paramedics Team Zodwa to runners like Shaun Naidoo and a councilor.  Many brought their family and friends; all added a link to the chain. The energy and vibe was electric.

Scan Displays set up 2 screens. Videos showed clips from beneficiaries and e’Pap projects that informed the public about the importance of making us all nutrient replete. A film crew from Time Frame recorded the happening and photographs taken by a number of volunteers will be loaded on Face Book. (FB: EPAP Technologies)

The Vuvuzela started the first session at 9am. Sessions of 67 minutes went on all day supported by over 160 enthusiastic volunteers. At 1.00 pm we started running short of bread. Pick n Pay, with their wonderful Customer Service, came to our rescue to see us through the last shift. The trolley’ they lent us helped to ferry the 10,000 highly nutritious e’Spread Peanut Butter sandwiches to vehicles waiting to load and distribute.

3000 sandwiches were collected by the Meals on Wheels taken to their Orange Farm and Kliptown Branches. EKFM 103.6 Radio Station based in Tsakane in Ekurhuleni arrived soon after to collect sandwiches for orphans in Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Geluksdal, Wattville and Langaville. Finally the balance of nearly 5000 sandwiches were taken by Linda Twala and distributed in Alexandra.

Thanks to Nelson Mandela’s inspiration, everyone was united in spirit and one common goal, eager to play a part of making a difference in someone else’s life.
