Team of Teams
Much of the world is stuck in a management model that is based on teaching people specialized skills that they repeat over and over as part of rigid hierarchies. But today, new technologies and new kinds of individual empowerment have made this old model obsolete.
We see an emerging pattern in Ashoka’s network where entrepreneurs are building a dynamic kind of team for this new economy. When individuals and organizations cross old boundaries and align toward a shared goal, they form a “team of teams,” unlocking massive amounts of social — and often business — value. We are moving into a future that requires every team member to be a leader and an initiator, and where the mindset of everyone-a-changemaker is the main criterion for organizational success.
Ashoka is partnering with business advisers, business schools, and social entrepreneurs to advance business models that create opportunities, solve problems, and scale-up social impact by engaging individuals to their full potential.
The Ashoka Globalizer program taps into Ashoka’s broad network of changemakers across the business, government, and citizen sectors. Ashoka Fellows gather with highly successful CEOs, entrepreneurs, and leading strategy consultants to further refine their strategies, solve key challenges, and open strategic doors. These business leaders help the Fellows reflect on key issues and establish a solid strategy to spread their impact. The Globalizer also identifies underlying patterns in innovative solutions and disseminates them, empowering social entrepreneurs everywhere to develop more effective strategies to spread their impact.
The Ashoka Support Network (ASN) is a global community of successful, innovative leaders from a variety of fields who see entrepreneurship as the primary engine for economic and social development. ASN members engage with Ashoka and Ashoka Fellows based on their interests and skills: ASN members participate in Ashoka Globalizer events, serve on advisory boards for Ashoka Fellows, attend local/regional retreats with members of the Ashoka community, assist Ashoka staff with institution-building efforts, and congregate at the ASN Global Summits. The network currently includes more than 350 members in 25 countries. Please read our ASN brochure to learn more about how members bring value to and benefit from the Ashoka network, and email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about ASN.
Through the Ashoka Executive in Residence program, corporate executives work on-site with leading social entrepreneurs around the world for a period of two weeks to six months. During this time with the social entrepreneur, the executive tackles a challenge that is critical to the social entrepreneur’s ability to scale-up their impact. At the same time, by working with the world’s leading social innovators, the executives bring back lessons learned about new innovations, emerging markets, and leadership techniques. At the end of their on-site placement, the executive and social entrepreneur continue to collaborate virtually and gain the opportunity to create shared value partnerships for their organizations.
