Yet, unsustainable consumption and production patterns kept driving emissions higher across the world, instead of lowering them. Unexpectedly, the COVID-19 crisis, despite its major imminent threat against people's lives and wellbeing, may have the potential to drive humanity towards a more virtuous path: more balanced living standards, more mindful consumption patterns, a rethink of our relationship with the planet and with all life forms on it.
