About Isadora

Through GirlUpMun, Isadora promotes debates on gender issues

Isadora resides in Sol Nascente, currently the largest favela in Brazil. Aware of the difficulties of being a young black woman from a marginalized community, Isadora grew up with the constant need to prove her capabilities in an extremely sexist society. And just like her, there are thousands of young women whose dreams are interrupted by the consequences of the structural sexism that defines and classifies women solely as reproductive beings obligated to take care of the household and children.

Isadora found her way to tackle this social problem through access to information and women's rights. This led her to create GirlUpMun, an international model United Nations (UN) simulation focused on debating issues that contribute to the growing gender inequality and are often invisible in society. The team consists of 15 young individuals from different countries across three continents, as well as various states in Brazil, who work towards gender equity and women's rights through GirlUpMun. The organization is divided into four sectors: Academic, Committees, Communication, and Administration, each responsible for different aspects of the simulation. In its 1st edition in 2022, 42 delegates participated in the simulation. Additionally, through social media, the project managed to democratize access to information for over 1,200 young people throughout Brazil.

For the future, the group plans to expand the simulation to other languages such as English and Spanish to have an even greater impact. One of their main goals is to organize an in-person simulation in Brasília, capital of Brazil, bringing discussions about gender equality and the role of women in society to the center of Brazilian politics.
