One Church One Community At A Time

Greetings! This story begins in 1976 when I had my first opportunity to be a leader in the church. As a freshman in highschool I became the Vacation Bible School Director. Every summer three churches came together to colloborate and host Vacation Bible School (VBS). Each church hosted VBS for two weeks. It was a time when we jointly completed neighborhood projects. Cleaning vacant lots, preparing meals for seniors, and doing chores for the shut-in. At the end of each two weeks we would ensure that the host church was cleaned and had the resources to continue their community ministries. Over the years my service to church and community developed into ministry. Fast forward to 2009, the beginning of my introduction as a changemaker. In my ministry position, I work with Congregations who want to develop their land to benefit the communtiy. I now oversee programs and services that turn unsused church property and buildings into affordable housing, schools, community centers that house nonprofit and for profit business all directed to provide a service to the community. Transformation begins with church owned property and when developed with a mission to serve acts as a catalyst for further change in the community. Living into God's Economy means that through the mission of individual and sometimes colloborating communities of faith, underserved community needs are met, lives are transformed and people our empowered. Changemaking begins with one church, one community and one mission! It is a joy to see a community go to its first sit-down restaurant, with employees who live in the community or have its first bank or daycare. Cultivating a way for the people of God to have their needs met is how we Live into God's Economy. Amen! Ase' O!聽
