Education students at the University of Wyoming get their hands-on training as future teachers at the UW Lab School, which just celebrated their 125th anniversary. Their mission is to create a positive learning community that will recognize, foster, and assess continuous improvement toward high levels of academic and social achievement for ALL students, pre-service teachers, faculty, and staff
Dr. Margaret Hudson
Dr. Hudson currently has the great honor of serving the UW Lab School community! This year is the 21st year she has been part of the Lab School family and her 10th year to serve as principal. Dr. Hudson is a Wyoming native and University of Wyoming alumnae with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (in the Area of Reading and Writing), a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Prior to coming to the Lab School, Dr. Hudson completed her student teaching in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and spent four great years at Linford Elementary School, here in Laramie, as a Title I Reading paraprofessional and then as a 5th grade teacher. Dr. Hudson moved to the Lab School to teach in the 2nd/3rd grade classrooms and then worked for eight years as the school’s Reading Specialist before taking the principal position. Dr. Hudson’s personal and professional goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of others. She is passionate about children and their education and is committed to maintaining a focus on broad educational goals as we work together to help all members of our learning community reach high levels of achievement. Academic success is essential, however a focus solely on academics and narrowly measured academic achievement, fails to educate the whole child. As a school, the Lab School must encourage and celebrate every aspect of each student’s capacity for learning. The definition of a successful learner needs to balance academic learning with a host of other skills and abilities such as: critical thinking, creativity, civic skills and dispositions, perseverance, social skills, work ethic, physical and emotional health, music, art, and world language/culture.
