North Glendale Elementary

North Glendale’s approach to student leadership in service learning makes it an innovative school. For a traditional public school, North Glendale and the Kirkwood School District are putting a great deal of emphasis on character education, service-learning, and social justice. The family groups are particularly promising, allowing older students to scaffold younger students in Changemaking projects. This is also part of a larger district-level initiative called Unite.

Elizabeth Stickley

Teacher

During her childhood, Elizabeth and her family experienced a house fire and lost everything. Her family relied on the empathy of others to get through each day while her 2-year-old brother was trying to survive in the ICU from smoke inhalation. It was the strength of her school and community that helped make every day a little bit easier for her family. Elizabeth made a promise to herself from that moment on to always help in any way she possibly could and to live her life with love. Elizabeth has served on multiple district and school committees over the last ten years of teaching. But Elizabeth feels that she finally found home at North Glendale where she belong on school and district communities.
