On 11 February at 6:00 PM, Ashoka Belgium will host the Ashoka Social Impact Night 2026 at The Merode, its annual gathering celebrating social entrepreneurship and welcoming newly elected Ashoka Fellow Thomas de Groote, founder of River Cleanup.
The evening will bring together members of Ashoka’s community for in-depth conversations, exchange, and connection around two key themes shaping our shared future: climate and environmental action and meaningful participation for democratic renewal. Through dialogue and collaboration, participants will explore how citizen engagement can contribute to lasting, systemic change.
The program will include:
A keynote by Thomas de Groote, founder of River Cleanup
An interactive panel discussion on “Democracy for the Planet: Citizens Driving Climate Decisions”, featuring Ashoka Fellow Ignace Schops, climate and human rights advocate Adélaïde Charlier, Erica Hope from the European Climate Foundation, and Karim Sheikh Hassan from CERAC (Climate Risk Assessment Center)
