People driving their own solutions

“GirlTrek is a global movement for Black women to engage their bodies, spirits, community, and agency, through the centuries-old act of walking.”

Ashoka insight

Ashoka Fellow T. Morgan Dixon has co-created a movement anchored in the spiritual, historical, and physical power of every Black woman. Walking together and taking the streets, as proposed by GirlTrek, is a way for Black women to choose health, community and movement as ways of celebrating their belonging to this world, and the United States.

In this interview, Morgan shares how Black women are self-organizing and choosing to improve, or in the words of Morgan “save”, their own lives.

How is our spiritual belonging to this world tested by the structures around us?

How can we contribute to enable everyone to belong?
