Huffington Post Gamechangers Poll Recognizes Ashoka Community

The Huffington Post has just launched a poll to select the top “Gamechangers” in a number of fields, including Philanthropy.

They have selected 10 top “Gamechangers” in the field, ranging from social entrepreneurs to funders to bloggers. We are proud and delighted that they have included Ashoka founder Bill Drayton on this esteemed list, recognized for the creation of Changemakers:

“As founder and current head of the nonprofit Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, Drayton aims to find change-making leaders around the world, provide them with support and modest “social venture capital,” and watch as they transform ingrained institutions and improve lives exponentially. He is credited with popularizing use of the phrase “social entrepreneur” to describe someone who combines the pragmatic, results-oriented methods of a business entrepreneur with the goals of a social reformer. Via Ashoka, Drayton is creating a global online community for people seeking to make change, encouraging them to inspire, mentor and challenge each other to come up with the best ideas in social innovation. Since 2004, Changemakers competitions have produced approximately 5,000 high-impact solutions from over 145 countries.”
-The Huffington Post nomination.

As pleased as we are with Bill’s inclusion we are equally-thrilled that our community is well represented beyond him.

Two other nominees are Ashoka Fellows – Donors Choose founder Charles Best and Kiva co-founder Matt Flannery – one is a Changemakers competition winner – The Extraordinaries – and finally Jeff Skoll, the founder of the Skoll Foundation, one of Ashoka’s friends and supporters.

Please support any of these great Gamechangers by submitting your ratings on the Huffington Post site.
