Obama honors an Ashoka Fellow:

In 2010, US Fellow JB Schramm and College Summit were chosen by U.S. President Barack Obama to recieve $125,000 of his $1.4 milion Nobel Prize. College Summit is a national non-profit organization that partners with high schools to strengthen college-going culture and increase college enrollment rates, so all students graduate from high school ready for college and a career.  Click here for a full list of award recipients.

The New York Times Covers US Fellows:

Check out this New York Times’ feature on US Fellow Marc Freedman and his organization Civic Ventures’ Encore Fellowships.  This Fellowship is a pilot program for baby boomers to transition into second careers.  The program takes workers at their retirement age and places them in six-month or yearlong paid stints with nonprofit organization in fields like education and the environment.  This approach is changing the nature of retirement and will hopefully expand to all 50 US states.  Read about some of these Encore Fellows here.
