Changemaker Schools

At Ashoka, we are playing a key role in changing the way young people experience education. Our global mission is to trigger a shift in mindsets across education systems so that every child develops and practices the essential skills needed to thrive in our rapidly changing world: empathy, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. These changemaker skills will enable children to bring about lasting change not just in their lives but also in their communities, organizations, society, and wherever they are most needed as adults.

To achieve our mission, we are building a network of Changemaker Schools across Canada by finding and carefully selecting elementary, middle and high schools that are leading a transformation in education that supports children as changemakers - individuals with the skills and confidence to change the world for the good of all.

After launching our Changemaker Schools initiative in Canada in early 2016, we recently announced our first cohort of Changemaker Schools. These schools join a global community of over 250 Changemaker Schools on 5 continents.

Over the next three years, we will continue to designate a number of K-12 Changemaker Schools across Canada, build partnerships with faculties and ministries of education, convene change leaders from institutions and organizations across the country, and build awareness of the importance of empathy, collaborative problem-solving, creativity and leadership skills in K-12 education.
