In 2025, Africa's Ashoka Fellows did something unusual. They organized and funded a continental gathering themselves, not convened by philanthropy, but by their own leadership and shared responsibility.
This October, they answer for what they said they would do.
Cairo hosts the next chapter: a three-day convening built on peer accountability, policy alignment, and solidarity, where Fellows report on commitments, forge new cross-regional collaboration, and sign the One Africa Accountability Declaration together.

Where It Began, Nairobi
For the first time, Africa's Ashoka Fellows self-organised and self-funded a continental convening — placing their leadership, agency, and shared responsibility at the centre of Africa's transformation journey. Rather than being convened for by philanthropy, Fellows convened with and by themselves, demonstrating ownership, solidarity, and accountability.

Fellows sit down with policymakers, the African Union, and the UN, testing where Fellow-led collaboration aligns with the continent's shared goals.
Accountability Through Solidarity.
New commitments are made, the Declaration is signed, and Field Visits take Fellows and guests out to see the work itself.
