The Accountability Moment

From every corner of Africa, one commitment.

In 2025, Africa's Ashoka Fellows did something unusual. They organized and funded a continental gathering themselves, not convened by philanthropy, but by their own leadership and shared responsibility.

This October, they answer for what they said they would do.

Cairo hosts the next chapter: a three-day convening built on peer accountability, policy alignment, and solidarity, where Fellows report on commitments, forge new cross-regional collaboration, and sign the One Africa Accountability Declaration together.

This is One Africa.

Nairobi 2025 Outcomes

A financial and cultural commitment to solidarity, reciprocity, and sustainability across the fellow life cycle.

A financial and cultural commitment to solidarity, reciprocity, and sustainability across the Fellow life cycle.

Unifying Sub-Saharan Africa and Arab World under a shared continental vision for collaboration and scale.

Fellow Legacy Program, WISE, Communities of Practice, and shared digital platforms for storytelling.

Methodology & Approach

The One Africa Summit is a process, not a single event.

  • Regional consultations across Sub-Saharan Africa and Arab World.
  • Mapping progress on One Africa initiatives (WISE, Legacy Program, CoPs, digital platforms).
  • Cross-regional collaboration pilots and peer-learning exchanges.
  • Engagement with funders, governments, and partners ahead of Cairo.

  • 3-day convening structured around peer accountability, policy alignment, and solidarity.
  • Fellow-led sessions, policymaker dialogues, and culminating in the signing of the One Africa Accountability Declaration.
  • Formal launch of the Fellow Engagement Fund.

  • Publication of a Summit Outcomes & Roadmap Report.
  • Six-month accountability checkpoints.
  • Establishment of a permanent One Africa Accountability Working Group to sustain momentum.

What Happens in Cairo

Accountability to Ourselves.

Fellows report on the commitments made in Nairobi.

Accountability to Africa's Future.

Fellows sit down with policymakers, the African Union, and the UN, testing where Fellow-led collaboration aligns with the continent's shared goals.

Accountability Through Solidarity.

New commitments are made, the Declaration is signed, and Field Visits take Fellows and guests out to see the work itself.

Co-architect the moment. A keynote slot, named recognition across all press and reporting, and co-branding on the impact documentation that carries this work forward.

Panel participation, logo placement, and inclusion in the published impact report.

Co-facilitate a session, named recognition, and visibility across the Ashoka network.

Focused packages start at $1,500, sponsor a Fellow's travel, a young changemaker's participation, or the media coverage that carries this story beyond the room.
