In 2010, Haiti was hit by a massive earthquake which has devastated the capital Port-au-Prince. We sent our thoughts, prayers, and donations to them during this extremely difficult and heart-breaking time.

Our hope was that eventually things would move from rescue and relief to recovery; and at that stage, consideration would be given as to how we can avoid such a horrific loss of life when the next earthquake strikes.

Ashoka Fellow Elizabeth Hausler and her organization Build Change have been working on this issue ever since she realized that it's not earthquakes that kill large numbers of people, it's poorly built building.
