Empreendedora social reconhecida por articular grandes parcerias globais, Jeroo Bilmoria iniciou seu trabalho com crianças de rua em Mumbai. Depois de distribuir o número de seu telefone para que elas ligassem em caso de emergências, o aparelho começou a tocar todas as noites.

Desse ato de carinho, e da identificação de uma necessidade sistêmica, nasceu o Childline. Qualquer criança de rua poderia ligar para um número gratuito e ser atendida por outra criança de rua, treinada e solidária. E assim, em breve, a ajuda estaria a caminho.

Jeroo, une entrepreneure sociale connue pour être à l'origine d'immenses coalitions mondiales, a fait ses débuts à Bombay, en travaillant avec les enfants des rues. Elle leur donnait sonnuméro de téléphone, en cas d'urgence. Il se mit bientôt à sonner toutes les nuits.

De esa preocupación y reconocimiento de una necesidad sistémica surgió Childline. Cualquier niño de la calle podía llamar a un número gratuito y ser atendido por un niño de la calle solidario y entrenado. Al poco tiempo la ayuda estaría en camino.

A social entrepreneur known for building huge, global coalitions, Jeroo first started in Mumbai, working with street children. She gave them her private phone number in case of emergencies.

Soon every night it was ringing.

From that caring and then recognition of system need came Childline. Any street child could call a free number and be answered by a trained and sympathetic street child. Shortly thereafter help would be on the way.

When she was just 13,  Tahua Tura of Bangladesh started expanding her theater troupe to include street children, primarily living in closed-off communities once referred to as “untouchables”.  Her early experiences accompanying her aunt, Ashoka Fellow Safura Begum, to poor communities and interacting with the children had helped her see that, like her, they enjoyed creative arts but simply didn’t have access to them.

Ashoka is honored to announce the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday, October 10, 2014 to Ashoka fellow Kailash Satyarthi from India and Pakistan’s Malala Yousafzai a passionate advocate for education. The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited the two "for their struggle against the suppression of young people and for the right of all children to an education".
