volunteered to help write award nominations for Ashoka Fellows in
Nigeria and Malawi. Due to my interest in Africa, I was encouraged to
reach out to Bart Weetjens, a Fellow in Tanzania, founder of APOPO, an
organization which trains African rats to detect landmines and
early-stage Tuberculosis. I am now working with him in Tanzania
assisting him with donor support for the APOPO project HeroRATS. I hope
to deepen my understanding of the citizen sector and learn more about
how partnerships between public, private and social enterprises can
play a part in creating sustainable solutions to the problems of our
