Google is a company that believes deeply in entrepreneurship. And this is a company that believes deeply in the power of information. We don’t think there’s another organization that combines these two things in a more compelling way than Ashoka.

Access to Justice

Empowering Local Citizens

Access to Justice Workshops connect social, business, and policy entrepreneurs; academia; the media; and other civil society leaders to influence public policy, inserting the concerns of marginalized groups into legislation and action.

From the most democratic societies to the most repressive regimes, minority and marginalized individuals find themselves disconnected from decisions that affect their lives. Information, power, and influence are concentrated within small groups of private or political interests. “Invisible” citizens – poor, indigenous, minority, landless, women, mentally ill, disabled, children – meanwhile are left with little access to justice.

Access to Justice Workshops have addressed:

  • Building Integrity Systems: Solutions to ending Local Corruption (Latin America, Asia)
  • Right to Information (Nepal)
  • Widows’ Rights (Nepal)
  • Rights of the Mentally Ill (India)
  • Rights of Landless Citizens (India)
  • Approaches to Influencing Public Policy (Latin America)
