Google is a company that believes deeply in entrepreneurship. And this is a company that believes deeply in the power of information. We don’t think there’s another organization that combines these two things in a more compelling way than Ashoka.

Environmental Innovations Initiative

The Environmental Innovations Initiative (EII) surfaces and spreads the insights of over 350 Ashoka social entrepreneurs working on improving the relationship between humans and the natural environment. EII promotes the core principles associated with successful environmental impact to the community of Ashoka Fellows, to the broader environment and development community, and to educational institutions that are teaching tomorrow’s leaders.

EII’s anchor principles highlight key features of the work of Ashoka's environmental Fellows, which are articulated in the two publications below.

Current activities include:

  • Writing case studies that demonstrate some of these core principles by exploring a Fellow's work.
  • Bringing together environmental leaders at workshops and collaborations to discuss and articulate key principles in publications, and to develop methods of implementing them.
  • Instigating and managing long-term projects that use principles to address important issues and challenges within the sector. Community Greens, launched in 2000, is one example of an EII demonstration project.
