Yuyun Ismawati Wins Goldman Environmental Prize
Ashoka Fellow Yuyun Ismawati, from Indonesia, has just been named one of the six winners of the 2009 Goldman Environmental Prize. The world’s largest honor of its kind and now in its 20th year, the Goldman Prize annually awards US$150,000 to environmental heroes from each of the world’s six inhabited continents. Yuyun has created sustainable community-based waste and sanitation management programs that provide employment opportunities for low-income people and empower them to improve the environment.
