Transforming Africa through Social Entrepreneurship
Ashoka celebrated the 2nd Pan African Orientation and Induction of its elected Fellows from across the African continent. From April 16-20, 2007 South Africa hosted Ashoka’s largest gathering of African Fellows and key players dedicated to collectively working for systemic social change in Africa. The week long gathering featured:

Since 1990, Ashoka Africa has supported over 225 dynamic leading social entrepreneurs in 17 countries who are implementing solutions at the grassroots level to solve the continent’s most pressing social problems. Our 2007 Fellows engaged in:
- Enriching rural communities by instituting new banking systems in Mali
- Mitigating religious and political conflict in Nigeria
- Eliminating land mines in Tanzania
- Tackling HIV/AIDS through media in Uganda
- Creating many more innovations that are transforming the landscape of Africa.
