25 Years of Social Entrepreneurship in Asia

Asia Fellow Induction 2007

Ashoka celebrates 25 years of being on the cutting-edge of social entrepreneurship in Asia with a series of events from January 15th to 18th, 2007 in Bangalore, India.

On January 18th Ashoka will honor the work of over 60 Asian social entrepreneurs from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lankan, Nepal and Thailand. The Induction event will highlight the exceptional Fellows ushering in path-breaking social and economic changes in a new, emerging Asia and the world.

The high-profile event at the Infosys Campus in Electronic city on January 18th will see the country’s leading entrepreneur N. Narayana Murthy deliver the welcome address with the concluding note by NRI business leader Gururaj Deshpande. Ashoka Fellow and Magsaysay Awardee Arvind Kejriwal will be inducted on the occasion for his relentless campaign against corruption using the Right to Information Act. Bill Drayton will address the gathering to share his vision for the citizen sector.

Prior to the Induction, on January 17th, leading entrepreneur Subroto Bagchi of Mindtree will be supporting Ashoka's vision of creating strong entrepreneur-to-entrepreneur partnerships, leading the dialouge on how to bridge the business-social divide and setting the agenda for the future of social change and development in Asia. Business leaders from across Asia will share the space with Ashoka Fellows during a 2 hour, intense session on “Building the Business-Social Bridge in Asia : How far will the Best Ideas go” ?

These events will conclude a three-day orientation workshop which will facilitate dynamic collaborations among the 63 Asian Fellows, part of the extensive Ashoka Fellowship network around the world.
